In Allegany County, shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, a crew of 20 firefighters from the Flintstone Fire Department responded to a home on Black Valley Road NE in Flintstone, when a passerby reported a fire that was in progress.
Upon arrival, officials say that they found a wood-frame barn that was built in 1860 up in flames.
It took an estimated 30 minutes to get the flames under control, but not before the fire destroyed the barn and caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to both the structure and its contents.
The cause and area of origin of the fire both remain under investigation, but investigators made note that all livestock escaped.
